Travelogue- Xi Tang (西塘), China (July 2007)

I was housekeeping my hard disk when I came across the photos I took during my trip to Xi Tang (西塘) which is one of the famous water village located in ZheJiang (浙江) province. I was in Wuxi (无锡) for 2 weeks business trip in July last year, during the weekend my colleague and I decided to go to Xi Tang for a 2 days 1 night trip. It was hot summer with temperature around 40C, hence we were a bit hesitated due to the hot and humid weather. It turned out to be one of the most memorable trip for me. Xi Tang is definitely a die-die-must-visit place as it has nice picturesque scenery, warm & welcoming people and it is still not widely commercialized as compared to other water village such as WuZhen (乌镇).

We took a bus from Wuxi to JiaXing (嘉兴) then from JiaXing we took a cab to XiTang. We do not have to pay for entry fees as we entered the village around 6pm (they collect entry fees from 8am to 5pm if not mistaken). We missed the boat ride around the canal at night because it was fully booked. That’s the only regret I had 😦 Anyway It was a nice experience especially after spending weeks in the noisy city of Wuxi, its great to be at a peaceful and yet wonderful place such as XiTang 🙂 If you have a chance, do pay XiTang a visit, you will not regret it 🙂

Enjoy the photos, cheers!

烟雨长廊酒旗风,所谓烟雨长廊当然是诗意的说法,俗称就是廊棚或者骑楼,其实只是西塘人家伸长的屋檐,可以遮风挡雨避太阳。

石皮弄

石皮弄-the narrowest lane in the town. It was about 68m long and 1m wide. You got the feeling that the wall going to tumble upon you as you walked through the lane. Its very very narrow indeed.
